Press Article: Learning at TheLightBulb helped me beat the blues

13th June 2012

A young Basildon Councillor believes his passion for politics helped him beat depression.

Andrew Gordon, the Labour councillor for Nethermayne Ward, has just earned a national adult and community learner award after completing a year's apprenticeship in business and administration through TheLightBulb.

He said the combination of the apprenticeship and going into politics has helped him turn his life around. "The apprenticeship was totally life-changing for me" he said. "I wouldn't say the depression is something I will ever fully get over – its hard to describe – but I am in a place where my support worker has said my case is closed and I have my whole life ahead of me. I have lots to look forward to."

Lesley Jones, Managing Director of TheLightBulb said "Andrew is a great example of someone who has managed to overcome personal challenges and achieve success. We are delighted to have been able to support Andrew, and it has been hugely rewarding to know that TheLightBulb has contributed to him being recognised for his achievements"
