What is an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are most often associated with young people for whom they are an excellent way of gaining qualifications and workplace experience. However as an employer apprenticeships are the proven way to train your workforce. There are over 180 different apprenticeship frameworks and they have all been designed to help your employees reach a high level of competency and performance.
What is a Framework?
A framework is a set of qualifications chosen by the Sector Skills Councils to ensure that learners have the necessary skills for that particular Apprenticeship programme. A typical framework consists of:
• A knowledge based element (The Technical Certificate)
• A competency based element (QCF)
• Transferrable key or functional skills
• A module on employment rights and responsibilities
• Development of Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
Once a qualification has been completed, a certificate is awarded, which will be recognisable by employers throughout a learners entire working life. The good news is if certain elements have already been accomplished and evidence provided, then the learner may be exempt from undertaking them again.
Having a specific set of accredited qualifications to gain means that learners can approach not just their framework, but also the Apprenticeship in a modular way, enabling them to acquire individual achievements while they work towards their final Apprenticeship success.
